36.3 N Magazine

A rainbow of spring desert wildflowers and a lonely desert iguana grace the cover of this issue of N magazine. Read all about nude hiking amidst this flowering landscape in an informative and entertaining article by our very own Master Gardener Kathy Blanchard.

This issue is chock full of humorous articles and nude recreation education for everyone. We celebrate the 13th year of World Naked Gardening with a report on WNGD co-founder Mark Storey who was interviewed and photographed by Seattle Times writer Erik Lacitis. While Paul LeValley wrote a very informative article on the History of nude youth camps in America.

TNS Lifetime Member Max Bochman shares his very interesting story of surviving cancer. We travel to Costa Rica, Belize, and a carnival cruise with various Naturist Society members and Mark Storey tells about a new venture in Seattle—Float tanks…in the nude, of course.

The very important NAC/NEF ballot appears in this issue along with brief bios on five Naturist Society members who have thrown their hats into the ring. Vote TODAY!

There is a very nice profile on long-time naturist/nudist Turner Stokes, as well as a visit to Turtle Back Mesa, the camera club at Cypress Cove, and Mike Cooney shares hints on taking “good” photos.

Of course, there is the usual N Sight, Letters, and a humorous review by Ruth Percey.

Once again, there is a little something for everyone!

"Webster defines a gathering as an occasion when people come together as a group, and a reunion as an organized gathering of people who have not been together for a long time. Combined, that is exactly what happens each June when we come together for the Eastern Naturist Gathering."

Catching up with Nicky Hoffman- TNS Editor and Owner

Catching Up with NickyEach year we celebrate the 4th of July with family at parades, picnics and the grand finale—Fireworks. This year was no exception, as I returned to my little hometown of Omro, Wisconsin with family to enjoy the greatest parade in the state. High school marching band, veterans, tractors, horses and local politicians parading down main street in the tradition of small town America. After the parade, we sat in the park, visiting with longtime friends, eating brats and listening to the band play a medley of patriotic tunes. What a great way to celebrate.

But wait; does that mean that summer is half over? I’m not ready for that. We had a wonderful Eastern Naturist Gathering last month and are looking forward to the Western Naturist Gathering next month at Sun Meadow in Worley, Idaho. You are attending aren’t you? It’s a beautiful place and the people are fantastic! It’s sure to be another wonderful event.

Get your workshop ideas in to me real soon as I’m working on the program right along...and don’t forget to register with Sun Meadow. The rooms are already full, but there is plenty of room for camping and RVers. See you there.

Here at the office we’re working on the next issue of N. If you’ve been procrastinating on getting that story written, you still have a little time to get it in to me for the next issue. Send your article to me at nickyh@naturistsociety.com. Wouldn’t you love to see your name in the byline?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Naturist Society founder Lee Baxandall

Lee Baxandall Naturist Society Founder TNS founder Lee Baxandall's first skinny-dipping experiences were as a young Boy Scout camping in Twin Lakes Reservation in Wisconsin. After receiving his master's degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Baxandall moved to New York, where he became active writing, translating, and critiquing plays. He also applied his writing skills to producing books on the arts, psychology, and politics. His political activism at this time prepared him for his interest in naturism to come. Together We Can Grow Naturism

Commemorative Tile

"Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." - Vince Lombardi

Did you know that when you become a member of The Naturist Society, shop the Skinny-Dipper, volunteer your time, or donate money to naturist causes you become a part of an inclusive and caring community that has been promoting and protecting naturism for more than 30 years?

Today, more of our beaches and public lands reserved for naturists is shrinking, making The Naturist Society's work more crucial than ever. We are not only battling to keep naturist ideals alive for future generations, but like you we are also fighting a downturn in the economy, and subsequently, membership dollars. We can't achieve our goals without the support of those that share in our passion for preserving what Lee Baxandall, and others before us have fought so hard for! With so much at stake, we hope you will consider supporting our work.

We are proud of the work we do, fighting for your right to enjoy nude recreation at beaches, resorts, hot springs and public lands, hosting naturist events on both coasts and publishing the first-class naturist magazine N but we can't do it alone. Won't you consider joining or renewing today so together we can continue to make strides in making naturism more main stream. Please MAIL, shop ONLINE, or call 800-886-7230 and become a member of our community!

If you are already a Naturist Society member please consider making a donation. Your support is appreciated and for every donation of $100 or more you will receive our Canvas Logo Tote Bag. Made of sturdy beige canvas with two-ply navy handles and accents this bag is durable enough to last a lifetime—just like your support!

Consider a Lifetime Membership

Become a Lifetime TNS memberThe Saguaro Cactus, survives in a barren, dry area due to the symbiotic relationship it shares with the creatures of the desert. Birds, bats, and insects flock to the pollen of this cactis' night blooming flowers, spreading the seeds that allow for new growth. In return the cacti provide shelter and nourishment. In this way naturists and The Naturist Society are similar. Without TNS, naturists would lose many beaches to government legislation…and without the support of naturists TNS will not grow and thrive. Won't you please consider becoming a lifetime member today and support the cause!

"It gives us a great feeling knowing that The Naturist Society is doing so much to protect our rights. The ongoing challenges naturists face are vast, but by joining with TNS and their history of remarkable accomplishments, we are proud to be a small part of the much needed solutions that The Naturist Society provides." -Claudette Richard and Jim Dickey, lifetime members since 1991.
